25 September Three armed and masked men entered a home in Malahide, North County Dublin, at around 1:00am and held a postmistress, her daughter and an Italian female student hostage. In the morning, the men took the postmistress to Bayside Post Office and waited until the time lock on the safe was released before taking money believed to be about 90,000 euros (USD113,500). A specialist Gardai unit was tipped off and chased the gang as it left Bayside. The gang crashed their car and ran off across fields.
