There are many aspects that affect a city’s living expenses and plenty of reasons for a city to be considered one of the most expensive expat destinations. Every year, Mercer Consulting publishes their annual cost of living report, which ranks different destinations around the world according to housing-, food-, and other living expenses. Like last year, the top 10 is occupied by the usual, glamorous expat destinations, such as Hong Kong or Geneva. But there are a couple of surprising results as well.
According to a new research report published by Finaccord, the total number of expatriates worldwide amounted to around 50.5 million in 2013. This figure has grown at a compound annual rate of 2.4% since 2009, given that there were around 46.0 million expatriates in that year. By 2017, Finaccord forecasts that the number will reach around 56.8 million.
As technology rules the global roost, are we all in danger of losing our traditional cultural identities and skills?
